Having worked closely with Specsavers since 2016, Chimera were once again asked to produce the flagship event for their partners at the ICC in Birmingham, in March 2024. Requirements would be similar to previous years but with the brief to make it “better than ever” for Specsavers 40th anniversary.
As with previous years the main plenary sessions would take place in Symphony Hall, however this year the production team were faced with the additional challenge of a significantly shortened build time. Designer Alan Streluk’s solution to this was a modular set that could be quickly assembled under the huge 18m screen. Louvred set pieces, gauze panels and LED curves meant that the set could be lit in a multitude of ways to compliment the colourways of the widescreen graphics on the screen above. Barco’s E2 system integrated 4K slide and video content with the IMAG camera mix.

In other areas around the ICC, Chimera’s team created and managed a number of different environments across the two day event.
The ICC’s cavernous Hall 3 accommodated a 2200 m2 exhibition which ran throughout Day 1 alongside a series of breakout presentations throughout the ICC. Then, during Day 2, whilst the plenary sessions ran in Symphony Hall, Hall 3 was transformed into a vibrant party room. During the evening Alexandra Burke played a 30 minute concert set accompanied by dancers and bespoke screen content, before DJ Denise van Outen took over entertainment duties. Meanwhile Hall 4 had been transformed into an elegant chill-out room complete with chandelier and stylish table-lamps.
